  • Notes
    • According to Grace (Greminger) Barile, grand-daughter of Mary (Howe) Hayden, reports that her mother Margeret (Hayden) Greminger told her about Mary Hayden's battle with cancer. "My mother Margaret Hayden nursed her mother til she died. Mother was sixteen when Mary died. [Margaret] often described the experience to me. Mary had cancer of the stomach or the uterus; it was not an easy death. There was an operation and she was in the hospital for a while. There was a cancer hospital in NYC at that time in the west 90s and I think that's where she was... At the time of Mary's death I think the family was living in the east40s or 50s."

She went on to write that "It is logical that Mary would have been buried in a Protestant cemetary but where I don't know. I don't think she ever became a Catholic and after her husband died she raised the children Protestant although they were baptised Catholic. My mother [Margaret] was the only one who remained a Protestant."
