    • I, Salvatore, was born June 17, 1918 during the Great Influenza Epidemic. Mom had the flu and I was born with it, weighing less than five pounds. For an incubator, I was placed in a shoe box and placed in a warm stone oven. The Doctor told Mom not to breast feed me but my crying after being bottle fed was too much for Mom so she disobeyed the doctor and breast fed me, possibly saving my life.
