    1900 US Census
    • A Joseph Vignato, a "servant," was shown as residing with the Ginocchio family in Patchogue. The DOB, place of birth and date of immigration match information already obtained about "our" Joseph Vignato, and Joseph's brother Salvatore was living in East Patchogue, so this seems to be a good match. The household included: John Ginocchio (33), Ellen Ginocchio (31), Sadie Ginocchio (14), Edith Ginocchio (12), Stephen Ginocchio (10), Joseph Vignato (23) and Sabato Marena (16). The census shows that Joseph was single, had immigrated in 1891 and had been naturalized. It shows that he was a fruit salesman (working for John Ginocchio). He could not read or write but he could speak English.

  • Notes
    • (Research):1/12/2009 - IMMIGRATION: There is a G. Vignetto that came to America on Oct 5, 1891. He was 17. The ship was La Touraine that departed from Le Havre, France. G. was from Italy and born about 1874. This is somewhat consisent with the 1900 census information for Joseph Vignato. On that census he states that he came in 1891 and was born Dec 1876. The G is probably for Guiseppi - which would translate to Joseph in English. I thinking this might be one of the misspelled Vignato arrivals. [12]
