    • From Finch of Charlotteville Township - By R. Robert Mutrie and David Edwards

      Finch, Tamson (daughter of Titus and Elizabeth (Glover) Finch), born at Forestville, Charlotteville Twp. c. 1842. She married on 24 Apr 1862,2 James Henry Thompson (son of James and Rosana (D'Orsey) Thompson), born at Normandale, Charlotteville Twp. on 15 Apr 1840, died on 13 Jul 1905 in 66th y.3 James was buried in Normandale Cemetery, Normandale, Charlotteville Twp.
      James' home farm was in Lot 10, Concession A, Charlotteville Twp. above Turkey Pont on Long Point Bay. He was listed on his farm in the 1867 Gazetteer.5
      On 24 Feb 1857, James was given a Crown Patent for 50 acres in the southwest quarter of Lot 13, Concession A. On 18 Jan 1862, he was given a Crown Patent for the marsh in front of Lot 10. He was given another patent for 116 acres in the west half of Lot 11, Concession B.6
      In 1864, James purchased from Joseph Van Norman the Red Tavern in the village of Normandale. In Vittoria Bicentennial 1796-1996, published by The Vittoria Bicentennial Committee (Vittoria, OB: 1996), p. 45: "When it operated as the Red Tavern is not known, whether in competition with the Union Hotel or at an early or later period. On the eastern boudnary of the lot there once stood a large barn facing onto the main street, of the type which accompodated the horses of customers and guests, of the public house. It was the home of the Thompson family for at least three generations, and bought by Bruce Guiler after the division of the Anderson-Guiler estate. Into this century it was still covered by the red clapboard siding from which its name originated."
      He was named on his substantial lands on the 1877 Historical Atlas map was in the west half of the lot running from north of the Front Road across the marsh to Turkey Point, including about 20 acres on the Point.7
      After Tamison died, James remarried to Jennett _______. James was listed as a farmer with his second wife in the 1901 Census of Charlotteville Twp., p. 23.
      In the 1881 Census of Charlotteville Twp. Div. 1 p. 74, James Thompson was listed aged 40, born in Ontario and Canada Methodist. He was living with James and Amret Price (his sister).
      Children:
      a i. Elizabeth Thompson, born on 11 Mar 1863, died on 15 Feb 1868 ae 4y 11m 4ds.3 She was buried in Normandale Cemetery.
      b ii. Birthey E. Thomspson, born on 28 Nov 1864, died on 16 Aug 1870 ae 5y 9m 18d.3 She was buried in Normandale Cemetery.
      c iii. John Thompson, died ae 4y.3 He was buried in Normandale Cemetery
